Mark your calendar now for EdTech 2012! Although March is several months away, planning has already begun for EdTech 2012, which will be held March 14-15 at Virginia State University in Petersburg.
This annual conference provides a wealth of technology sessions and hands-on workshops, and highlights the latest and greatest in educational technologies for teachers, library media specialists and district administrators. Participant registration forms are now online and can be found at

We are ready to let the ball start rolling for the first annual HCPS Unconference, and we need your help. Please share the event information with select teachers and your network beyond HCPS. - Grant - Matt Dunleavy - virtual smartphone project - wants to do something like that for VA history - needs core group of teachers to create local history project - only 10 teachers - need to be out of the box teachers - if interested, email Mano.

- Draft of policy from DOE - people should not have contact with kids using social tools; was changed - is more open; comes to school divisions to develop own policy; who is working on this? Henrico, Goochland, - combining with AUP? Helpful if surrounding areas doing similar things, so can support each other; Goochland - getting specific - if football coach wants to text players - use personal or school phone? If personal, must get building principal to give permission each year or use school issued phone.
- Responsible Use Policy instead of Acceptable Use Policy? Teach them ethics and what's right; if don't use it properly, take it away.
- National STEM Video Challenge - Science Matters Project Manager (Debbie Mickle)

- WCVE will be conducting workshops in Farmville on iPad2 - Wayne has lesson plan that doesn't use network for elementary; secondary does.
- Hanover - has two wikis with apps using - for administrators and special ed
- Spotsy - creating in house - can create from scratch or tweak what have. Use Employee Self Serve - electronic for employees to see payroll stubs, etc. Will be doing similar with observations; Have Time Clock that teachers click in and out - staff too; Will share with us;
- Powhatan - Observation 360 - have iPod cart; looked at way to track devices - Find My iPhone/Pad/Pod - didn't really work - abandoned;
- looking at electronic databases and seeing what is being used and seeing which schools need more ITRT support;
- Left it to principals to determine what needs are and let them make decisions; If don't need it, what do they need?
- They generate data of what is being used and what isn't and letting instructional leaders say what areas need pumping up - give to principal and let them decide what to do with data.
- Business and Personal Finance course - Henrico coming up with digital curriculum; Hanover looking at online course
- Bring Your Own Devices - Chesterfield beginning; Spotsy - parallel guest network - got overrun; Bill - how will that work instructionally? If some do and some don't, how will it be a coherent lesson? VETAC will be discussing this at monthly meeting.
- Sally - uses LightSpeed for web filter and has a Learning Management system - MyBigCampus - social networkish and students and teachers love it.
- Monty - some are moving away from LMS's - just use Google and invite others into website. Crowd sourcing instruction.
- Debra - Brain Honey - http://brainhoney.com/ - using for digital content development - associated with eLearning portals
- Adam - Its Learning - http://www.itslearning.net/ - teachers can create PLCs; subscribe to a "Turn It In" type service and will check across the district for things that were turned in (example - did sibling turn in elsewhere)
